7N Architects were approached in early 2009 to develop proposals for Inverness Airport Business Park (IABP Ltd) following previous work by members of the team on the masterplan and design guidelines. IABP Ltd is a joint venture company formed by Moray Estates Development Company, Highlands and Islands Airports, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and with support from The Highland Council.
The masterplan creates a long term development framework for the largest business park development in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. The development of over 350,000m2 of office, industrial and hotel accommodation on a 250 hectare site is integrated with the proposed expansion of the adjacent Inverness Airport and the new town of Tornagrain.
The masterplan uses new woodland as a structuring framework to integrate the buildings into the setting and to mitigate against wind and road noise. An extensive tree planting programme has been developed with the forestry division of one of the development partners, which harks back to the woodland which was introduced in the early twentieth century to stabilise the shifting sands at nearby Culbin.
