7N’s second project featured in the 198th RSA Annual Exhibition is our HUB Station for Network Rail. The ‘Critical Action’ theme of Jude Barber’s architecture room placed emphasis on projects that create civic value and a connection with their location. We were delighted that our design for sustainable railway stations was selected as an example of how a project can reflect its context, while being flexible enough to be implemented across the UK.

Developed as a model to re-imagine what a station could become in the 21st century, the HUB Station concept is a blueprint for a new generation of environmentally sustainable, community focused transport hubs. This kit of parts comprises a simple, adaptable, and scalable catalogue of standardised elements that can be tailored to the context and locality of each station, whilst maintaining a consistent national identity. HUB Station champions railways as a progressive and sustainable mode of transport, one which has a pivotal civic role in serving communities throughout the country.

Within the exhibition, you will see a 00 gauge model of a typical station and a rendering for our design that won the 2020 RIBA international competition.
