“I think the new Fraser Avenue development has energised the community. I think it’s excited everyone,” Julie Watson, Kingdom Housing Association.
Key to the success of the masterplan has been a deep level of engagement with the local community in order to establish a shared vision of what a re-imagined Fraser Avenue might be. What was once a troubled and isolated street in one of the most disadvantaged areas of Scotland, has been transformed with good quality building stock that provides warm, dry, secure, and energy efficient homes, alongside ample public space where children can play.
7N’s masterplan addressed many of these social challenges through a placemaking framework where every space has a clear purpose and a defined sense of ownership, creating a new neighbourhood that is woven into the social and physical fabric of the area.
Our work in Fraser Avenue has received multiple awards over the years and we are immensely proud of the substantial change that it has achieved for the community, a community that played a vital part in the journey. Architecture and Design Scotland (A&DS) described the project: “The regeneration of Fraser Avenue can be seen as a tangible model for the delivery of new and replacement affordable housing, breaking from the stigma of the past to create a place populated by people who want to rebuild and feel invested in the community in which they live.”
