Detailed proposals for the first phase of the India Quay development, at Fountainbridge in Edinburgh, have been approved by City of Edinburgh Council.

The first phase comprises residential-led mixed use plots which will deliver a total of 434 new homes. The development includes Build to Rent homes, which are professionally managed and specifically designed for the private rental market, and 112 tenure blind affordable homes. At ground level, a new active frontage of cafes, restaurants and retail units will be created to address the Union Canal and Dundee Street.

Public Realm and landscaping designs build on the themes and principles of the consented masterplan, which were developed in conjunction with key stakeholders and the local community at workshops held in late 2013.

The India Quay project is a key initiative by the City of Edinburgh Council and their development company The EDI Group to develop a pivotal, 11.5 acre site at Fountainbridge on the Union Canal.
